The Chinese language is abundant in the four-character idioms which are generated following certain rules based on the embodied-cognitive arguments. However, the relevant research in this area is currently inadequate.Focusing on the Chi-nese four-character idioms featuring the"pi(披)X dai(戴)Y"construction, this paper attempts to explore the four-character idiomatic structures in Chinese from the perspective of both the construction grammar and the embodied-cognitive linguistics.Analysis reveals that the generation of such Chinese idioms follows the rule"reality-intentional embodied cognition-language",indicating that these idioms come out of the what-you-see-is-what-you-get principle. This paper aims at enhancing the embod-ied-cognitive linguistics as to highlight the primal function of intentionality which is the source of embodied-cognition.In addi-tion,this paper also provides implications for future explorations of VO structures in Chinese and other languages.
