Multimodal critical discourse analysis starts from the choice and analysis of various discourse resources such as lan-guage,images or sound,the meaning expressed,the implied perspective,the purpose and intention,the highlighted or im-plied viewpoints and ideological characteristics.It focuses on:the discourse means and strategies employed to express views,events and attitudes,to construct social identity and social practice;the semantic field created and the values conveyed through choice of words,choice and display of images or sounds,the identity and meaning explicitly or implicitly constructed and the order of events implied or hidden;the particular use of various discourse resources such as transitivity and verb process,nominalization and presupposition,rhetoric and metaphor,modality and hesitant expression,and their relation with discourse goals;the ways and features of different modes of meaning construction,its intention,connotation,purpose and effect,and the means and strategies of integrating language,visual or other symbols to maximize communication goals.
