With the development of science and technology,a single focus on the translation and transformation of language symbol systems in foreign cultures is not sufficient for comprehensively interpreting the translated text.Translators have gradu-ally added various forms of meaning expression such as comic, picture book, and video in the process of translating and intro-ducing pre-Qin classics. This article attempts to analyze how the visual resources of the multi-modal English translation of the comic version of Zhuangzi construct its meaning and illustrate ideas of Zhuangzi. It is found that:interpersonal meaning in texts is constructed by adjusting the multidimensional perspectives under the focusing system and the color usage under the at-mosphere system;discourse meaning is constructed by adjusting the layout of the pages and the framework for forming textual boundaries;conceptual meaning is constructed by adjusting the participants, their behavior and actions, and the time and place of the story depicted in the translated text. The adoption of the above visual resources enables the English translation of the comic version Zhuangzi to rapidly attract readers'attention in heterogeneous cultural contexts, reduce readers'cognitive load, thereby providing a window for the English world to appreciate the wisdom of ancient Chinese classics.
