Jean Rhys is a global citizen who travels between the Caribbean and Europe. In her novel Wide Sargasso Sea,she expresses her profound cosmopolitanism.By writing about the common values such as hospitality exhibited by people of differ-ent races, genders and religions, she reveals how the common values contribute to transcending the boundaries among civiliza-tions,races,genders and religions to foster productive cross-cultural interactions. At the same time, through literary narra-tion,Rhys not only emphasizes the irresponsibility for the marginalized groups such as women and children who give the other unconditional hospitality, but also emphasizes the necessity of conditional hospitality. In her opinion, for marginalized people from the third world, only on the premise of adhering to the nation-state identity can the world identity have certain value and significance.
