Translation of Chinese Contemporary Folk Literature:With Mo Yan and Jia Pingwa as a Case in Point
Mo Yan and Jia Pingwa are both renowned Chinese writers in folk literature with comparable literary creations, titles, and domestic influence. However, the number and influence of English translations of their novels largely differ.Mo's works have achieved desirable communication effect by the joint effort of the translators, publishing houses and the author himself, while that of Jia's works is less desirable due to the differences in writing style, translator pattern, dissemination approach, and reader positioning.Based on a systematic contrastive study of the English translation and dissemination of their novels, drawing on relevant concepts of communication theories, this paper attempts to present an ideal translation and communication model for Chinese folk literature to"go global".
