Excavation of " Red " in the Silk Fabrics of the Western Han Dynasty Official Workshops from the Mawangdui Tombs of the Han Dynasty
The Mawangdui Tombs of the Han Dynasty is an encyclopedia of the Western Han Dynasty,encompassing disciplines such as science,culture,and art,with abundant content including silk paintings,pottery,seals,and more.The variety of silk fabrics unearthed displays a remarkable artistic use of color.This article takes the unearthed silk fabrics from the Mawangdui Tombs of the Han Dynasty as the material carrier to analyze the color representation of"red"in the unearthed silk fabrics.Based on this,the article introduces the dyeing methods of red plants and mineral dyes during the Western Han period,including thread dyeing,piece dyeing,and bundle dyeing techniques,as well as matching methods of similar and contrasting color schemes.Understanding the presentation of"red"in the silk fabrics of the Western Han official workshops reveals its cultural significance and delves into the value and symbolic meaning of its color in later generations.
