Digital Rural Construction Driving Common Prosperity in Western Regions:The Inner Mechanism and Empirical Testing
Digital rural construction is not only an important aspect of digital China strategy,but also an important measure to promote the realization of common prosperity.Studying the impact of digital rural construction on common prosperity has important theoretical value and practical significance.The article is based on panel data from 817 coun-ties in China from 2018 to 2020,and empirically examines the impact and mechanism of digital rural construction on common prosperity in the western region.The research results indicate that the construction of digital rural areas can not only promote the improvement of relative income of rural residents,but also narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas,significantly promoting the process of common prosperity in the western region.The analysis of regional heterogeneity found that the positive effect of digital rural construction on promoting common prosperity in the western region is greater in county-level cities than in non county-level cities.Multidimensional heterogeneity analysis found that digitalization of rural life and rural economy have a more significant promoting effect on common prosperity in the western region.Industrial structure upgrading is an important channel for digital rural construction to drive common prosperity in the western region.That is,digital rural construction can improve the relative income of rural residents and narrow the urban-rural income gap by promoting industrial structure upgrading.The impact of digital rural construc-tion on the urban-rural income gap lies in the digital threshold of rural governance.After crossing the threshold,the role of digital rural construction in bridging the urban-rural income gap is greater.Therefore,while continuously pro-moting the deep development of digital rural construction in the western region,attention should be paid to the differ-ences in digital rural construction,establishing regional collaborative mechanisms,balancing its balanced development,establishing a long-term mechanism for empowering common prosperity through digital rural construction,continuously improving the governance capacity of digital rural areas,promoting common prosperity in the western region through be-nign digital rural construction,and achieving shared achievements of common prosperity between urban and rural areas.
