During the Tianqi period of the Ming Dynasty,Nan Juyi,the Fujian governor,formed the friendship with Zhang Xie,a renowned scholar from Zhangzhou in the war against Dutch invaders.Their acquaintance was facilitated by their mutual patriotism,familial connections,and recommendation of their friends.The two forged a deep friendship in brief three meetings,and kept in touch through letters and poems for more than a decade,encouraging and influencing each other,a remarkable story of personal relations among literati in the late Ming Dynasty.
