A Comparative Study on the Thoughts of Educational Modernization in China and Japan in the 19th Century
In East Asia in the 19th century,in the face of the powerful influx of Western civilization, both China and Japan put for-ward the guiding ideology of promoting the modern educational modernization transformation with the help of Oriental Confucianism culture.Although both the idea of"Zhong Ti Xi Yong(Chinese learning as the fundamental structure and Western learning for practical use)"in China and the concept of"Hehun Yangcai(Japanese spirit with Western knowledge)"in Japan regarded Confucianism as a powerful means to mitigate the impact of Western culture and to avoid the loss of dominance of the cultural system, the"Hehun Yangcai"proposed by mod-ern Japan was more inclusive compared with the"Zhong Ti Xi Yong"in China, and regarded cultivating citizens with independent thinking and establishing a modern education system as the goals of the educational modernization transformation in modern Japan, while the idea of"Zhong Ti Xi Yong"limited the educational modernization transformation in modern China to the application of practice, without shaking the fundamentals of the feudal system in modern China at all. This led to completely different results in the educational modernization trans-formation in modern China and Japan, and restricted the development of modernization construction in modern China.
