Cytological Observation on the Senescence of Soybean Cotyledon
The structure of cotyledons of soybean in different periods of germination was studied through light microscopy and fluorescent microscopy, and the change of protein and starch grains in the cotyledon cell were also observed. It indicated that proteins and starch grains in the cotyledon cell diminished little by little during the seed germination.Proteins in the cell would be completely used firstly, and starch grains would be consumed slowly.A typical morphological feature of PCD was identified on the 18~(th) day of the periods of the germination. The consumption of the nutrients in the cotyledons of soybean cells induced the cell apoptosis.
