From the standpoint of interactional linguistics,the author analyses the language of a piece of Suzhou Storytelling and Ballad-singing,a classic example of SSB,and explains the logic and reason behind its excellence.A distinguishing feature of the Chinese language is its special regard for the formulation of dialogue and intertextuality which are the inherent quality of human language.SSB is based on narration,stylized and featured in multi-dimensional dialogue and intertextuality.To affect the audience,outstanding performers of SSB are skillful in fully presenting the features of Chinese and making good use of the standard style of SSB.The author finally makes a suggestion for improving the style of contemporary writings in vernacular Chinese.
