Abstract
The narrative core of The Old Man and the Sea focuses on the thrilling battle between an old fisherman,Santiago and a gi-ant marlin and shark.In this work,Hemingway abandons the inherent mode of the traditional hero role and endows the role with unique ar-tistic charm and depth.He uses simple,concise and natural words to accurately depict the inner world and external image of the charac-ters,making them lifelike.It not only shows the perseverance of human beings in the face of the challenges of nature and fate,but also deeply reveals the strong belief that even though the body may suffer destruction,the spirit will never be defeated.
