A Comparative Analysis of Three English Versions of Tao Te Ching from the Perspective of Translator's Subjectivity
Tao Te Ching,a classic of Chinese traditional culture,has been translated into English for over 150 years.This paper compares the three versions of Lin Yutang,James Legge and Arthur Waley,from the perspective of translator's subjectivity.The analysis reveals that translators are significantly influenced by their own subjectivity,leading to variations in their understanding of the original text,choice of translation strategies,and translation language style.By examining how translator's subjectivity is manifested in the transla-tion,this paper aims to encourage translators to be more mindful of their subjectivity during the translating to produce higher quality trans-lation.
