Translation Criticisms in Technical Terminology—A Case Study of the Chinese Translation of"astronaut"in Aerospace Technology Translation
Terminology is a collection of titles that represents concepts within a specific discipline,using speech sounds or characters as carriers to express symbols of scientific concepts.As a cross-linguistic conceptual carrier,terminology translation is crucial in modern scientific research.However,in the process of terminology translations,researchers have ambiguities in the translation and expression of some technological terms.From the perspective of terminology,the article analyzes the etymology,usage and Chinese translation of the word"astronaut"in aerospace technology translation,and criticizes the versions of Chinese translations such as"Yuhangyuan""Hang-tianyuan"and"Taikongren".The results indicate that the most distinctive feature of technological terminology is conciseness and accura-cy,while phenomena such as lack of standardization and mixed usage exist in translations.It is urgent to clarify terms and usage in Chi-nese translation.The study of terminology is of significance in the development of natural sciences and humanities and social sciences,as well as the rise of China in the new era.Therefore,standardizing terminology vocabulary,developing terminology theory,and cultivating terminology talents are particularly important.
