College English teaching should not only enrich students'theoretical knowledge,but also cultivate their comprehensive abilities in listening,speaking,reading,writing,and translation.Especially in the context of the construction of new liberal arts,English teaching in universities needs to innovate English teaching concepts and models,and improve the quality of English teaching in universi-ties.With the support of English competitions,promoting learning through competitions can enable students to acquire English knowledge and practice English skills,effectively improving the quality of English teaching in universities.Based on this,this article analyzes the val-ue of college English teaching based on the concept of promoting learning through competitions,and several practical strategies for college English teaching are proposed around the teaching model of promoting learning through competitions to promote the development of students'comprehensive abilities.
