Mark is important in the study of ancient Chinese potteries and ceramics.As one of the ceramic terms,the English transla-tion of"mark"is of great significance for the dissemination of Chinese ceramic culture.This article takes the example of Catalogue of Chi-nese Pottery and Porcelain In The Collection of Sir Percival David produced and translated by the British ceramic scholar Robert Lockhart Hobson in the 20th century,dividing the six types of marks into two categories,exploring the translation methods of them,and combining historical and cultural factors,proposing some revision suggestions for his English translation,in order to provide reference for the English translation of ceramic terms.
