By employing an online acceptability judgment task and using specific multi-word chunks as research stimuli, this study investigated the impact of chunk meaning on Chinese English learners'mental representation of frame chunks. The findings revealed that:Chinese English learners exhibited a type frequency effect in the processing of low-meaning chunks, indicating that even frequently occur-ring frame chunks with lower degree of meaning possess psychological reality;however, the type frequency effect did not appear in the pro-cessing of high-meaning chunks, suggesting that compared to low-meaning chunks, the processing of high-meaning chunks may not sig-nificantly rely on type frequency information.Overall, the study confirmed the psychological reality of Chinese English learners'frame chunks, providing some supportive evidence to the usage-based approach to language acquisition and the teaching of second language frame chunks.
