Abstract
The"third-dimension message"in translation refers to the information that must be considered and delivered beyond the fundamental dimensions of semantics and syntax.This third dimension encompasses elements including common sense,logic,context,tonal nuances,author's intent,and anticipated reception by the reader.This study conducts a comparative analysis of Yao Jinqing's and Fu Weici's translations of W.Somerset Maugham's The Moon and Sixpence,focusing on their treatment of the third-dimension message in translation,thus underscoring the significance of the third-dimension message in the process of translation.
