The school motto represents highly the spiritual connotation and ideological pursuit of one university,and condenses highly the university culture and the ideas of school managing.It can not only embody the university's education philosophy and its goals of train-ing talents,but also guide the thinking and act of all the staff on campus.This paper expounds in detail the definition and function of school motto,as well as its translation methods,aiming at arousing the attention of some of our university leaders and translators to school motto translation.
