Abstract
This article aims to explore the application and effects of common rhetorical devices in English novels,using Hermann Hesse's The Glass Ball Game as an example for detailed analysis.The article first outlines the penetrating significance of rhetorical devices,and then comprehensively analyzes how these rhetorical devices are skillfully used to make the plot of the novel more vivid and interesting,the character portrayal more three-dimensional and vivid,and to endow the work with deeper ideological connotations.This provides a new perspective for readers to better understand and appreciate the literary and artistic value of English novels.
