Based on the CAD model and the cognitive grammar view of construction coercion, this paper elucidates the cognitive-pragmatic characteristics of two types of pseudo-coordinate structures that serve as singular-meaning subjects in English, and finds that:(1)There is a semantic relationship of supplementation between the"coordinate items"of these two types of pseudo-coordinate structures;(2)The pseudo-coordinate structures as subjects that are introduced by structures between coordinate conjunctions and subor-dinating conjunctions or prepositions show similarities with those in Modern Chinese, where"coordinate conjunctions"are diverse and serve the function of subordinating conjunctions or prepositions, and the"'coordinate conjunction'+noun(phrase)"represents a semantic supplementation to the entire sentence.
