A Comparative Study of Chinese and English Cultures—Taking Phatic Communication as an Example
In daily communication,phatic communication is a special form of effective communication,which is produced in a spe-cific context.In the process of language communication,there may be several different effects caused by phatic communication.The con-texts brought by different greetings or other phatic utterance are also different.At present,the research on phatic communication has devel-oped from the initial definition to the study of its cultural connotation,to the study of actual pragmatic research,and has developed along the direction of cognitive field.Based on the differences in the use of phatic communion between Chinese and English,this paper explores the application and cultural connotation of phatic communion in different cultural backgrounds.
