Domestication and Foreignization in Translating A Dream of Red Mansions—A Comparative Study of David Hawkes'and Yang Hsien-Yi's Translations
As the greatest classical Chinese novel,A Dream of Red Mansions has two most recognized translations.One is from David Hawkes,a famous British sinologist,and the other is from Yang Hsien-Yi and Gladys Yang,two well-known literary translators in China.This study conducts a comparative analysis of the two translations,and discusses the strategies of domestication and foreignization in the process of translation,so as to provide a relevant reference for the translation study of a Dream of Red Mansions.
