基于CQPweb的英汉母语者农科英语论文中情态动词使用的差异研究
A CQPweb-based Study on the Differences in the Use of Modal Verbs in Agricultural English Papers by English and Chinese Native Writers

摘要
本研究基于语料库网络平台,分析农科英语论文中英汉母语者情态动词使用频率、搭配和人际意义实现方面的差异.定量研究显示,汉语母语者过度依赖低值而回避高值情态动词,使用类型贫乏,偏好情态动词搭配有灵主语和一般时态,较少用虚拟语气;英语母语者则偏好情态动词与无灵主语和被动语态的搭配.定性分析表明两者实现人际意义的路径不相同,汉语母语者多用"we can"留出协商空间以表达委婉语气,而英语母语者多搭配被动语态缓和语气.本研究的发现将为学术英语教学和写作提供一定参考.
Abstract
Based on CQPweb,this study analyzes the differences in the frequency,collocation,and the realization of interpersonal meaning of modal verbs between English native writers(ENWs)and Chinese native writers(CNWs)in agricultural English papers.Quan-titative analysis demonstrates that compared with ENWs,CNWs over-depend on low-value and avoid high-value modal verbs,use less types.CNWs prefer animate subjects and simple tenses,and seldom use perfect tense,while ENWs prefer inanimate subjects and passive voice.Qualitative analysis illustrates that two groups achieve interpersonal meaning by different pathways.CNWs tend to use"we can"to leave room for negotiation and express euphemism,while ENWs incline to use passive voice to achieve buffering.Our findings will provide valuable references for Academic English teaching and academic paper writing.
