To investigate the current situation,attitudes and learning needs of non-English major college students regarding their English competency to express Chinese traditional culture,this study conducted questionnaires,competency tests and interviews among 209 first-year undergraduate students of non-English majors.Results showed that students generally lacked Chinese traditional culture knowledge and English competency but with varied performance in different cultural contents.Most students held a positive attitude towards expressing Chinese traditional culture in English,but some had misunderstandings.It is suggested that College English optimize curriculum content,teaching methods and evaluation system,and integrate Chinese traditional culture with students'professional study to enhance their ability in international cultural communication.
