Can Virtual Agglomeration Enhance the Resilience of the Industrial Chain?Empirical Test Based on Panel Data of Cities in China
In the context of the digital economy, virtual agglomeration, with its unique network and platform advantages, has become an important driving force for enhancing the resilience of the industry chain.Based on the panel data of 278 cities in China from 2004 to 2019,this paper empirically tests the impact and mechanism of virtual agglomeration on the resilience of the industrial chain. The results show that virtual agglomeration can significantly improve the resilience of urban industrial chains, and there is an obvious"Matthew effect",that is,the stronger the resilience of the industrial chain is,the greater effect of virtual agglomeration on it is.The mechanism test shows that virtual agglomeration improves the resilience of the industrial chain through the platform empowerment effect and knowledge spillover effect. The heterogeneity test shows that the effect of virtual agglomeration on the resilience of the industrial chain is more significant after the year of 2015,in the regions with higher economic development level and regions with more advanced industrial structure. This study provides theoretical support and empirical basis for virtual agglomeration to empower the resilience of the industrial chain and ultimately to realize the modernization and high-quality development of the industrial chain.
