The Impact of Digital Economy on the Deep Integration of Manufacturing and Productive Service Industries
The digital economy subverts the traditional production mode and organizational structure,and becomes a key driving force to promote the development of industrial integration.Based on the panel data of Chinese cities and listed companies from 2011 to 2019,this paper explores the mechanism of digital economy on industrial integration from two dimensions:empowerment intention and empowerment action.It is found that,the level of industrial integration has significantly elevated during the sample period,and the spatial characteristics of"peripheral over central and coastal over inland"are presented.The digital economy dramatically contributes to industrial convergence,and the result still holds after a series of robustness tests.The promoting effect of digital empowerment intention and empowerment action on the two industries'integration varies in different regions and cities.Based on the mechanism tests,the digital economy promotes the integration of the two industries primarily through two paths:enhancing the level of market integration and the energy efficiency of government governance.Further analysis indicates that there is an"inverted U-shaped"characteristic of the digital economy on industrial integration in different quartile,which first increases and then decreases.The conclusions enrich the research in the field of digital economy and industrial integration and provide some policy insights.
