Formation and Evolution Mechanism of CEO Responsible Leadership:A Qualitative Study Based on Imprinting Theory
Responsible leadership,as a type of leadership which meets ethical expectations of traditional Chinese culture, has received increasing attention of scholars. This paper adopts a multi-case study method and explores the formation and evolution process of Chinese responsible leadership by conducting in-depth interviews and biographical analysis of CEOs.This research finds that:(1)The formation process of responsible leadership in China is a process of continuous self-sublimation and moral development of the leaders.(2)The cultural connotations of collectivism and pursuit of righteousness in traditional Chinese culture deeply influence the imprinting source and process of responsible leadership development.(3)The tradition of China's reverence for virtue and humility affects the evolution mechanism of responsible leadership, and there are three typical paths for the imprint of different sensitive periods:manifestation, strengthening, and replacement. This study explores the formation mechanism of responsible leadership, extracts the evolution process model of"unchanged original intention, cognitive iteration, and behavioral manifestation",forms a theory of responsible leadership evolution with Chinese characteristics, and provides practical inspiration for the cultivation and shaping of responsible leadership in the Chinese context.
