The Belt and Road Initiative and the Deepening of High-Tech Product Trade Networks
The high-tech industry has become a key engine driving a country's economic growth and innovative development.Based on the high-tech product trade data of the United Nations Commodity Trade Statistics Database(UN Comtrade)from 2000 to 2021,this paper constructs a global high-tech product trade network, and empirically tests the role of the Belt and Road initiative in the high-tech product trade network of countries along the Belt and Road by combining complex network analysis and the staggered double difference method. The research finds that the Belt and Road initiative can significantly drive the deepening of the trade network status of high-tech products of countries along the Belt and Road, and this impact has a long-term effect. The deepening effect of the high-tech network of the Belt and Road initiative is more prominent in participating countries with higher institutional levels, better sentiment towards China, and within the community where China is located. The joint construction of the Belt and Road can promote the deepening of high-tech trade networks of countries along the Belt and Road by promoting the smooth flow of facilities and trade and the flow of factors. This study not only systematically tests the global achievements of the joint construction of the Belt and Road, but also provides potential enlightenment and direction for further optimizing international trade cooperation in high-tech fields.
