The concept of urban development is a guideline for the direction of a city and a distillation of its aspirations.At different stages of urban development,different urban development concepts have emerged in response to specific urban issues and demands.This paper firstly compares the history of the evolution of urban development concepts,and then constructs a framework for analyzing the characteristics of the evolution of the 4W urban development concepts,including the background(Why),the development stage(When),the proposer(Who)and the core elements(What).Subsequently,based on the 4W framework,the internal logic of the concept of urban development and its relationship with the social economy at different stages are specifically analyzed,as well as the categories of main countries and organizations who proposed the concept of urban development.Furthermore,based on the core essences'focus,the concepts are divided into ecological and social types,summarizing their key characteristics.Lastly,based on the historical evolution characteristics of urban development concepts,the article provides management suggestions and research prospects.
