The Study of Detailed Management Integrated with Urban Planning and Design Control Strategies in Melbourne Central City
For the maintenance of historical landscape, problems were identified in China's practice, such as unclear guidance on urban characteristic features,no specification of controllable urban features, and lack of the coordination among planning elements. Therefore,it is necessary to build a detailed management system to maintain historical landscape and enhance attractiveness of the city.Using Melbourne central city as an example, this research focused on micro-level management of regulating urban form in a historical central city. The discussion showed particular interests on how the specifications of heritage legacy, building form, street space, and architectural details were defined and regulated in written documents, which were then accurately transformed into planning implementation.Suggestions were given to the integration of detailed management with current planning and design practice within Chinese context.
