This paper examines urban renewal practices in the UK from the perspective of promoting employment.Through reviewing the history,evaluating the effectiveness,sorting out the policies and analyzing the typical practices,it is concluded that the practice of promoting employment in urban renewal in the UK has experienced the process of government-led,real estate-driven,multi-dimensional synergy-driven,and parallel promotion of city-neighborhoods.From the perspective of taking comprehensive renewal as the path,responding to industrial development as the basis,and promoting work-life balance as the key,this paper summarizes the urban renewal oriented towards promoting employment in the UK,analyzes the planning strategies to promote employment,such as improving planning framework,advocating smart growth,strengthening supporting services,improving responsiveness,using zoning tools,encouraging independent renewal,and anatomizes the multi-dimensional synergy-driven urban renewal mode to promote employment.Finally,this paper puts forward suggestions on promoting employment in implementing urban renewal in China based on the enligtenment from the practices in the UK.
