Creating a Livable Urban Environment from the Perspective of City-Water Harmony
Cities are closely connected with nature, and have an especially intimate relationship with rivers. From primitive settlements to modern metropolises, rivers have always been influencing the development and evolution of cities.Over time, cities have grown from being built alongside rivers to currently crossing and embracing them. The relationship between cities and rivers has undergone significant changes due to the different roles rivers have played in various periods of urban development. This relationship can be divided into three stages:city-water symbiosis,city-water estrangement, and city-water integration.Achieving harmony is the inevitable trend of development. In the urbanization 2.0 phase,China should address the issues faced in the previous stages of city-river development. We should utilize river systems to reshape urban spaces, allow river systems to carry urban culture, and make river systems important venues for citizen interactions, thus creating an ecologically livable urban environment.
