Higher Education Studies(HES)has evolved into an academic discipline, thanks to the enormous growth in global high-er education in the last few decades. However, many people still doubt the legitimacy of knowledge produced by HES,not only be-cause research methodologies adopted are often not rigorous enough, but also because there remains a huge gap between research and practice in HES.Though it creates theoretical frameworks to explain various higher education phenomena,HES can hardly provide guidance tailored to local practices in different countries. Therefore,as higher education researchers in China,we should be more practice-oriented,no matter in knowledge production or talent training. On the other hand,we should not just introduce good prac-tices of those developed countries but draw lessons and develop theories from our own experiences.Through finding local solutions for local problems and updating our understanding about the nature of higher education,we can bridge the research-practice gap and reshape the future of HES as a discipline.
