"Time"in Historical Studies of Education in Britain:A Literature Review
"Time",a long-neglected crucial concept, has recently become a hot topic in historical studies of education in Britain.Researchers have explored the temporal dimensions of the history of British education in various ways:1)analyzing the history of working-class education based on their working hours;2)analyzing the history of schooling based on school-entry and school-leaving age,as well as teaching hours;3)analyzing the history of girls'education based on multiple temporalities;and 4)analyzing the history of early childhood education based on time policies of childcare. These studies have brought"time"from the background to the foreground of historical research in education.Examining multiple times from a multidisciplinary perspective, they can help us better understand major events in the history of education.Their findings also have implications for our contemporary society facing similar problems.
