Social acceleration has changed the tempo of our modern society and greatly affected everyone.Especially,the pace,content and objectives of tertiary student learning have also been transformed,because of the interplay between three forms of social acceleration,including"technological acceleration","acceleration of social change"and"acceleration in the pace of life".In the era of social acceleration,tertiary-level students are suffering a lot from peer pressure,time anxiety,a sense of uncertainty,and in turn,alienation(or disconnection)from the spaces,time,content,and actions of their learning as well as self-alienation.To alle-viate the alienation of tertiary student learning,students themselves should set their own time,focus on long-term goals and practice delayed gratification to resist social acceleration.On the other hand,higher education institutions need to reform their evaluations of students'academic performance,build a campus culture of deep thinking and slow growth,and provide students sufficient emotional support.
