Abstract
English humor is a popular way of communication. A pragmatic study of English humor should be based on naturally occurring humor to the greatest extent as far as possible,which makes the live talk show a best choice,and the most popular of which is in America,namely The Ellen DeGeneres Show. From the perspective of the CP,this tentative study explores the generative mech-anism of verbal humor,hoping to provide some useful suggestions to better understand the generative mechanism of verbal humor and meaningful reference for the language users.
