Grain Size Evolution of Surface Nano-crystalline Layer in AZ91 D Magnesium Alloy Induced by Laser Shock Processing

Grain size evolution of surface nano-crystalline layer in AZ91D magnesium alloy induced by laser shock processing (LSP)was studied in this paper.Results demonstrated that nano-crystalline produced by LSP on the surface of the magnesium alloy AZ91D was 40~50nm on average.Thermal stability of surface nano-crystalline layer lies in joint effect between crystal defect and the mixture of nano-crystallines and coarse grains.
