Biden Administration's Food Security Cooperation with Africa
In the context of the Biden administration's coordinated implementation of promoting great power competition and addressing global challenges, the issue of food security has become an important tool to achieve the international strategic goals of the United States. The Biden administration has set a wide range of agenda items for food security cooperation in Africa, including food trade,climate-smart agriculture, food aid, and"democratic governance"of food security, which is fundamentally motivated by strengthening great power competition with China and Russia in Africa, improving the United States'ability to access Africa's critical mineral resources, and opening up the African food and agricultural market. However, there is a mismatch and contradiction between the strategic supply of the United States and the strategic demand of Africa, and it is difficult for the Biden administration to improve Africa's food security in the long run.Driven by the US strategy of great power competition, the Biden administration's cooperation on food security in Africa will intensify China-US-Africa infrastructure competition, threaten China-Africa cooperation in science and technology supply chains, and squeeze China's influence on global development governance.
