Indonesia's Policy Towards China Under the Background of Major Power Games
In recent years, with the intensifying game between major powers and profound changes in global geopolitical configuration,Southeast Asia has become a focal point where the powers vied for influence.Since the"Indo-Pacific strategy"published by Joe Biden administration, the US has spared no effort to attract Southeast Asian nations like Indonesia, making these countries pressured to take sides.Indonesia has on the one hand promoted the cooperation with the US,but on the other hand enhanced its relations with China. It is the policy tradition of"free and active"that made Indonesia to strengthen the ties with China in spite of the pressure from America. When the incumbent Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto won the Indonesian presidential election in 2024,Sino-Indonesian relations will be likely to maintain the momentum of friendly cooperation. However,China and Indonesia may encounter some challenges such as American interference, tensions in the South China Sea and political changes in Indonesia.
