Prospects of Building the ASEAN Digital Economy Community
The digital economy is increasingly becoming an important force driving global economic and social development and changes.Major economies in the world have formulated digital development strategies and developed the digital economy to gain the initiative in future development and international competition.The ASEAN's Digital Community 2045 vision encompasses five core agendas,including strengthening regional digital inter-connectivity and infrastructure as a foundation for development;activating the digital entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem to drive improvement in both economic and social welfare;constructing a secure,robust digital governance framework assured by rule of law to ensure orderly development;driving cross-industry collaboration,sharing,and co-building of diverse entities to achieve resource sharing and win-win;and pursuing inclusive growth and digital fairness.This vision was brought forward against a background intended to perfect the top-level design and overall presence of regional digital economy,enhance ASEAN's competitiveness in digital economy and strengthen ASEAN's central position.However,ASEAN's goal of building a digital economic community is also challenged by global economic fluctuations,internal development imbalances,large income gaps,lagging digital governance,rising security risks,and complex geopolitics.China must strengthen cooperation with ASEAN on the digital economy from a strategic perspective,engage with the digital economy blueprints of both sides,and help ASEAN achieve its ambitious blueprint of the digital community by 2045.
