A method is established for the determination of trace glycerin in water by ion chromatography.Under acidic condition,glycerin is oxidized into formic acid by sodium periodate,and then the content of formate radical is detected quantitatively by ion chromatography,thus the accurate content of glycerin is obtained.The glycerin derived samples are eluted with 20 mM KOH eluent at a flow rate of 1.0 mL·min-1.The samples are separated by means of Dionex IonPac AS15 anion exchange column and detected by an inhibited conductivity detector.The detection limit of derived formate radicals is 0.015 mg·L-1,and the recoveries of derived formate ions at concentrations of 0.5,1.0,2.0 and 3.0 mg·L-1 are between 96.26%and 99.68%.The relative standard deviation of this method is 0.39%.It is verified that this method has mild pretreatment conditions,high reaction speed,less byproducts,high sensitivity,high accuracy and good repeatability,and is suitable for the detection of trace glycerin content in water.
