Taking spent melon seed shell as carbon source and Na2S2O3 as sulfur source, the sulfur modified melon seed shell derived carbon material is synthesized via one-step low temperature impregnation method. The sulfur modification and sulfur doping are achieved at the same time, and the catalytic performance of catalyst for synthesis of ammonia is enhanced. The morphology, structure, physical and chemical properties of the catalyst are characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analyzer, and the hydrophobicity of sulfur is utilized to inhibit HER competitive reaction. Results show that the sulfur atoms doped create abundant electrochemical active sites and enhance the performance of the catalysts in electrocatalytic synthesis of ammonia.Under normal temperature and pressure, the yield of ammonia over the catalyst reaches 11.46 μgNH3/(mgcat.·h),and the catalyst remains stable performance.
