Research on recovery of valuable metals from cathode materials of retired lithium-ion batteries
A detailed overview is presented for the current research status on the recovery of target metals from four major types of lithium-ion battery cathode materials, including LiNixCoyMn1-x-yO2,LiFePO4,LiMn2O4,and LiCoO2.Firstly,the difficulty of the treatment process is directly related to the cost and efficiency of recycling.Secondly,as for different recycling processes, the extraction of the target metals and the impact on the environment are comprehensively analyzed from multiple perspectives. Finally, through comparing the advantages and disadvantages of different recycling processes,it can be found that each process has its own unique application scenarios and limitations. Therefore,in order to achieve efficient and environmentally friendly treatment of decommissioned LIBs in the future,it is necessary to integrate the advantages of various processes and innovate recycling technologies.
