Interleukin-17A(rs2275913)gene polymorphism and susceptibility to periodontitis:a systematic review and meta-analysis
Objective To evaluate the relationship between interleukin(IL)-17A(rs2275913)gene polymorphism and periodontitis susceptibility by meta-analysis.Methods We manually searched the case-control studies on the relationship between IL-17A(rs2275913)gene polymorphism and periodontitis(PD)published by October 30th,2022.The databases manually searched include China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Wanfang,PubMed,Cochrane Library and Embase databases. The correlation was evaluated by calculating 95%confidence intervals(CI)and odds ratios(OR).The Newcastle-Ottawa scale(NOS)tool was used to assess the quality of the included literature.STATA 12.0 application software was used to quantitatively synthesize the comprehensive effect of all included literatures and to conduct sensitivity analysis based on the results. Results Our meta-analysis included nine case-control studies with 1051 cases and 815 control subjects.Meta-analysis results showed that there was no significant correlation between IL-17A rs2275913 polymorphism and risk of PD in four IL-17A(rs2275913)gene polymorphisms and periodontitis susceptibility models(G versus A:OR=0.78,95%CI:0.55~1.07;GG+GA vs.AA:OR=0.70,95%CI:0.65-1.06;GG vs.GA+AA:OR=1.77,95%CI:0.45~1.10;GG vs.AA:OR=0.61,95%CI:0.34~1.08).In addition, when subgroup analysis was conducted according to race, control source, and gene distribution in accordance with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium(HWE),it showed that the risk of PD in Caucasian and Asian populations had statistically significant increase. In the study that the distribution of IL-17A rs2275913 genotype is consistent with HWE,IL-17A rs2275913 has a significant correlation with periodontitis susceptibility.Sensitivity analysis showed that abandoning any study would not affect the results of combined analysis. Conclusion The IL-17A rs2275913 gene polymorphism is not associated with the incidence of human periodontitis, but it has an important association between Caucasian and Asian patients.Affected by the sample size and research content of eligible studies, these results need to be confirmed through more work in the future.
