Effects of extraction of premolars on axial inclination of mandibular third molars during orthodontic treatment:A meta-analysis
Objective To evaluate the effect of premolar extraction on the axial inclination of the third molar during orthodontic treatment in adolescents. Methods This Meta-analysis is registered with Prospero, registration number CRD42022320819,We searched PubMed,Cochrane Library,Embase,CNKI,vip, and Wanfang. The search was conducted between January 2005 and May 2022.The patients were divided into extraction group and non-extraction Group. We conducted a meta-analysis using Revman 5.3 and STATE.Results A total of 650 samples were included in 8 studies. The results of meta-analysis showed that:The change of angle before and after orthodontic treatment of extraction of premolars:△ M3-HRP(WMD=3.627,95%CI=2.683~4.571,P<0.05);△ M3-MP(WMD=-2.912,95%CI=-3.600~-2.224,P<0.05),Extraction of the second premolar or extraction of the first premolar angle changes:△ M3-HRP(WMD=2.309,95%CI=1.361~3.257,P<0.05).Conclusion Orthodontic extraction of premolars can effectively reduce the axial inclination of Mandibular Third Molars. The second premolar extraction was more effective than the first premolar extraction in reducing the mesial inclination of the mandibular third molar.
