A retrospective study of Lipiodol irrigation in patients of juvenile recurrent parotitis
Objective To elaborate on the classification of Juvenile recurrent parotitis(JRP)based upon clinical manifestation, ultrasonic and sialographic appearances, and to evaluate the effect of Lipiodol irrigation. Methods Forty-three patients with JRP underwent ultrasonic examination and Lipiodol sialographic inspection/irrigation procedures. The clinical characteristic of JRP was summarized, severity of illness was classified, and the effect of Lipiodol irrigation was analyzed. All patients were followed up periodically after treatment. Results Forty-three patients with JRP underwent 1-5 times of Lipiodol irrigations.During the 12 months follow-up after last irrigation,17patients(39.5%)went well without recurrence,17 patients(39.5%)recurred once,5 patients(11.6%)suffered recurrence for twice, while another 2 patients(4.7%)felt worse,2 patients lost to follow-up(4.7%).JRP can be classified as mild, moderate, and severe lesion with different effective rate of 83.3%,50.0%,and 34.8%separatly.Conclusion Lipiodol irrigation is valuable for the diagnosis and treatment of JRP.Early treatment is more effective when the lesion is mild.
