Investigation and influencing factors of deciduous tooth caries among 3~5 years old children in Haikou
Objective To investigate the epidemiology and associated factors of deciduous tooth caries among 3-5 years old children in Haikou,and to provide epidemiological reference for oral health care in preschool children.Methods A total of 1680 children aged 3~5 years in Haikou were selected by the methods of clustered sampling survey from February to March 2023.Examination of caries were performed on children and their parents were surveyed with questionnaire regarding oral health behavior.The caries rate,average decayed-missing-filled tooth(dmft)and filling rate of caries were calculated and analyzed.The influencing factors of deciduous tooth caries in children were analyzed by Logistic regression.Results The deciduous tooth caries rate in children aged 3~5 years was 64.46%,the average dmft was 3.71.The caries rate was higher in towns children was higher than that in urban areas children,and increased with age,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The filling rate among 3~5 years old children in Haikou was 10.77%.The filling rate in urban areas children was higher than that in towns children,and increased with age,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The multivariate Logistic analysis showed that 5 year old,town residence,daily consumption of sweets or sugary drinks(≥1 time),eat every night before bed were risk factors for children aged 3~5 years suffering from deciduous tooth caries,while using fluoride toothpaste daily,start brushing teeth before 3 years old,daily brushing times ≥2 times,parents oral knowledge were protective factors.Conclusion The prevalence of deciduous tooth caries among 3~5 years old children in Haikou is relatively high,and the filling rate of caries is lower.The prevention and treatment of deciduous tooth caries should be carried out in high risk children,in order to improve the oral health level of preschool children.
