Correlation Between Formation of Pores in Quartz Glass and Crystal Characteristics of Raw Materials
Pores are the main structural defects affecting the quality of quartz glass. In order to explore the relationship between the causes and the characteristics of raw quartz crystal,5 kinds of high-quality gangue from different regions at home and abroad were selected as research objects.Polarizing microscope,ICP,XRD and other instruments and methods were used to analyze the crystal properties, inclusions and purity of different gangue sand. The apparent characteristics of high temperature melt and the distribution of silica in and out of raw material surface and vitreous pores were compared. The results show that with fewer primary inclusions, fewer lattice defects and higher crystallinity, the melt pores are less and the transparen-cy of quartz glass is higher. On the contrary, the melt has many pores and the transparency of quartz glass is low.A large number of fine primary inclusions in quartz crystals are the main factors for the formation of pores in quartz glass.Lattice defects are closely related to crystallinity and can be inherited. The purity of quartz sand is not directly related to the formation of melt pores, but the existence of lattice impurities can lead to lattice defects.
