Study on Process Mineralogy of a Banded Hematite Ore from India
In order to better recover a banded hematite ore from India,a systematic study is conduct-ed on the mineral composition, occurrence status of major elements, and embedding characteristics of major minerals of the ore using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, mineral automatic analyzer(MLA)combined with chemical analysis. The research results indicate that iron grade in the ore is 35.86%,SiO2 content is 48.67%,and the content of other elements is relatively low.The metal minerals in the ore are mainly hematite, containing small amounts of limonite, magnetite, siderite, etc; The gangue minerals are mainly quartz, containing small amounts of silicate minerals such as hornblende, biotite, epidote, and al-bite.The main texture of ore are strip like and block like texture, main structures including porphyritic,dis-seminated,granular,metasomatic,and fibrous structures. The hematite in the ore is mainly in the form of porphyritic aggregates and forms bands that interact with quartz. The porphyritic hematite contains fine-grained quartz, and the particle size of the inclusions is fine.Quartz in the ore is mainly distributed in irregu-lar granular aggregates, often enveloping fine-grained and fine-grained hematite. The particle size of the in-clusions is very fine, and it is difficult for the two to completely separate during grinding and selection, which can have adverse effects on the quality of iron concentrate.
